My First Gallery Show!
I cant think of a better way to start off this blog than by announcing my very first "show" as a Finalist!
Back in April, I entered the Capture Coral Gables photography contest. Out of almost 600 entries in the Manipulation (adult) category, my image was chosen! I cant even begin to wrap my head around this, I'm so honored and excited to be a Finalist!
My image, Chihuly In Space, along with the 11 other category winners, will be on display for the Summer Exhibition at the Coral Gables Museum starting some time in June. Judges and Patrons of the museum will vote on their favorite images, and the winner will have a solo show (among some other possible category prizes).
Seriously, am I dreaming?
Is this real life?
I am so humbled, happy, honored, excited (insert 7 million other words here).
Never in a million years did I EVER think one of my images would be hanging in the wall of a museum.
10 years later, of loving what I do, here I am. I couldn't be happier.
ok, ok. Enough sappy stuff. Let me tell you a little bit about this image.
Back in 2015, I visited Fairchild Tropical Garden, to see Chihuly's glass sculptures on display there. This specific sculpture was my favorite. Glass spheres floating in the water. When I took the original photo, I always thought they looked like planets. I remember seeing his work in middle school and high school and loving the colors he incorporated in his glass work. Id be lying if I said his color work didnt shape and inspire my own. When I saw the Manipulation category in this photo contest, I just KNEW I had to make this planet idea a physical image.
And it worked.
Ill be posting again once I have exact dates for the Summer Exhibition.
I hope to see you all there, I'll try not to cry at the sight of my image on a glorious museum wall. Key word: TRY.
